Installing Dial-Up Networking

Dial-Up Networking Icon Dial-Up Networking Icon First you must check to see if Dial-Up Networking has already been installed on your system. Go to the Control Panel, Add/Remove programs. Select the Windows Setup tab and click on Communications, then click the button Details.

If Dial-Up Networking is ticked, then scroll down to Installing TCP/IP.

Otherwise Tick Dial-Up Networking and click on the OK button. You will be prompted to insert your Windows 95 CD, and then Windows copy files to your hard disk. When the files are transfered you will need to reboot your system.

After rebooting you will find a new icon on your desktop called Network Neighborhood.

Installing TCP/IP

TCP/IP is the universal "Internet Language". For any Internet connection to work, you must have this protocol installed on your system. To check if you have TCP/IP installed on your system, right click on Network Neighbourhood, and select properties.

If you do not see Microsoft TCP/IP in the list of installed network components, then click on the Add button. Click on Protocol then click Add again.

You'll see a list of manufacturers and Network Protocols. Select Microsoft from the list of manufacturers, then select TCP/IP as the protocol you wish to install. Click on OK twice

Once again you may be required to reboot your machine.

Now that everything is installed, we have to Configure Dial-up Networking.
