Telnet

Telnet allows you to login to a remote system via the Internet.
A number of different telnet programs can be used to connect.

Hyper Terminal
comes standard with Windows 95 and later
To use Hyper Terminal as a telnet client, make sure you are running an updated version, available from:
ftp://ftp.netro.com.au/win/internet/telnet/htpe6.exe

Connecting
Select Start, Programs, Accesories, Communications, HyperTerminal
Create a new connection, eg "Library of Congress Information System"
On next screen (shown below), select connect using TCP/IP
Then type in the host address, eg "locis.loc.gov"
Change the port number if applicable (Port 23 is the default)
Click OK to continue

You should now be connected
